Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora (BUDPR) is a national advocacy organization of Puerto Ricans in the United States working toward a free, just, and prosperous future for Puerto Rico. Since 2017, its members have worked together to build bridges between Puerto Rican community leaders and federal lawmakers, educate for structural change and long-term economic development, and mobilizing the Puerto Rican diaspora to pursue decolonization.
Our Mission
BUDPR is the only national organization that is focused explicitly on decolonization as our central priority, and that explicitly advocates for Puerto Rican sovereignty. We seek to educate, empower, organize, and activate the 6 million+ strong diaspora—and other allies—to use our leverage in U.S. politics and society to advance decolonization.
Initiatives
While our primary focus is ending Puerto Rico's unjust colonial status, we frequently collaborate with partners on educational and political initiatives to advance progress on other critical issues facing Puerto Rico and to build a better future for our people. These include:
- Energy Independence
- Environmental Justice and Climate Resilience
- Public Debt and Economic Sustainability
- Opposing Gentrification and Displacement
