We applaud the candidate’s commitment to decolonization and independence.
JUNE 3, 2026 | WASHINGTON, D.C. - Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora (BUDPR), a leading organization of Puerto Ricans in the United States, today announced their endorsement of Hartzell Gray in the Democratic primary for the Missouri 4th District U.S. House seat, citing Gray’s support for Puerto Rico’s decolonization and sovereignty and his commitment to fight for Puerto Ricans in Congress.
"I believe in self-determination and sovereignty for all peoples and that the United States should not have colonies in the 21st century” said Gray. “I’m proud to have the support of Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora and of Puerto Ricans and other Latinos in my own community. When I'm in Congress, I will prioritize championing the dignity and freedom of my Puerto Rican brothers and sisters in Missouri’s 4th Congressional district and across the nation."
Gray is an organizer, activist, and radio host with a progressive platform centered on human rights and social justice. He is a staunch opponent of U.S. militarism and imperialism who believes the U.S. should pursue peace and cooperation with other nations, not colonialism.
“Hartzell Gray is the kind of bold young leader that this moment demands and that the issue of Puerto Rico’s status needs,” said BUDPR President Alberto Medina. “With allies like Hartzell in Congress, our community will continue to fight for decolonization so that we can free Puerto Rico after 128 years of U.S. rule.”
Throughout the 2026 election cycle, BUDPR is connecting with federal lawmakers and candidates to secure their support for Puerto Rican sovereignty. There are tens of thousands of Puerto Rican voters in states across the country, including Missouri, where they can have a decisive impact on elections when candidates courageously address the issues our people care about.
“Leaders like Hartzell Gray understand that Puerto Rico’s colonial status must end and that Congress has a responsibility to take action,” said Medina. “We’re proud to stand with Hartzell in this election and we look forward to working with him in Washington, D.C., to serve the needs of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to advance liberation for Puerto Ricans in our homeland.”
