Join Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora for a panel of activists, journalists and organizers highlighting the connections between the Puerto Rican and Palestinian struggles within the broader context of U.S. imperialism, colonial governance, and political control.
The discussion will be grounded in movement experience, public education, and organizing strategy. It will help a Washington, D.C., audience of advocates, students, policy professionals, and movement allies better understand how these issues are connected and why Puerto Rico’s sovereignty must be part of larger conversations about justice, liberation, and American power.
Our guests will be:
- Constanza Eliana Chinea: A Puerto Rican journalist and content creator whose work focuses on decolonization and social justice and has been featured in the BBC, LA Times, TYT, and iD-Mag.
- Janeen Rashmawi: As Advocacy Director at the Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project, Janeen leads campaigns to advance Palestinian rights with policymakers and communities in the U.S. Previously led Palestinian human rights delegations with the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies in Geneva and Washington, D.C.
- Vanessa María Graber: Vanessa, who leads Philly Boricuas, is an award-winning journalist helping build political consciousness, Puerto Rican diaspora organizing, and community power.
- Calvin Yohannan: Calvin, who will serve as the panel's moderator, is on the Board of Directors of Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora (BUDPR), focusing on marketing and communications. He’s been a content strategist at ad agencies including Ogilvy and Zeno Group.
